About Paul Bale
Paul was born in the idyllic, Country Village of Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom. Shortly there after, the Bale family moved to Winnipeg, Canada. Fleeing the winter cold, they made the journey to the more desirable West Coast, in beautiful Vancouver, BC. Finally, settling in the beach side community of Kitsilano. As a young lad, playing daily at Kits Beach, Paul discovered an intense, passion for all sports, specifically Basketball.
Paul’s first Championship team was at St. Augustine’s in the Catholic League 1976. During Paul’s 5 years at Kitsilano High Secondary, he became a prolific scoring machine, for the newly named Blue Demons, leading them to a 7th Place in the AAA 1983 BC High School Championships, the best finish in Kitsilano history at that point in time. Paul remains the leading scorer in it’s 100-year history.
After Graduating from Kits High, Paul accepted a Scholarship to attend VCC Langara, and play basketball for the Falcons for 1 season finishing 2nd in BC Championships. During that summer break, Paul was selected to play for the Under 21 BC Provincial Select Team. The BC team was tall, deep and extremely talented, they travelled to Brandon, Manitoba to win the 1984 Gold Medal, Junior Canadian Provincial Champions! Paul accepted another Scholarship to attend Simon Fraser Clansmen, to play for Stan Stewardson, Jay Triano, for 1 uneventful season.
Paul’s first skilled trade, was in Vancouver’s diverse Hospitality Industry, studying, learning, practising all aspects of the front, and back of the house service procedures, and operations. Working in many of Vancouver’s iconic restaurants, bars, hotels, night-clubs…including The Cannery, The Fish House in Stanley Park, Le Gerard at the Hotel Meridian. The Pacific Palisades, O’Doul’s, Bishop’s, West, Diva at the Met- Metropolitan, M Bar, The Cecil, Café Medici, Wild Rice.
At the relatively late age of 29 years old, Paul decided to fulfill a childhood dream, and play Professional Basketball. Utilizing his Dual National citizenship, being British ( Bosman A ), and Canadian, Paul sold everything he had accumulated, retiring from the Hospitality Industry, and bought a one-way ticket to Europe. Paul travelled throughout Europe for 7 years, playing for 8 teams in 6 seasons. In the BBL (British Basketball League) Birmingham Bullets, Doncaster Panthers, Newcastle Eagles, London Towers. And in Austria, ABC Graz, Gmunden Basket Swans, Wels 96ers. Retiring at the age of 36 years young.
While on vacation in South Beach- Miami Florida, Paul met his wife Flavia. They decided to move back to Vancouver, and start their new life together. Working with the Kromidas family, Paul designed a smaller version of a basketball court at Pantheon Gym, located in downtown Vancouver. Paul started a Basketball business called Kitsilanokid Development, teaching the fundamentals of basketball to all ages. Within a few months, Paul had secured a couple of Technical Advisory jobs in Vancouver’s film industry, and the NBA Vancouver Grizzlies teaching job, with their youth and development, camps and clinics throughout the lower mainland. Paul continues his passion for teaching youth Basketball with Coaching positions at St. John’s in Kitsilano for a season. And currently he is volunteering teaching high school basketball as the Head Coach of the Grade 8 boy’s team at King George Dragons Secondary, in the West End of downtown Vancouver. Paul is a very proud Hoopjunkie!
Paul’s amazing, grandmother- the late great, Carolina Pyne was a licensed Realtor in the early 70’s with Royal Lepage, and he has fond memories, of riding in her car to Open Houses. Using these memories as motivation for learning a new trade, Paul attended the BC Sauder School of Business at UBC, and received his Real Estate License. Now, 15 years in the Real Estate industry, both as a Realtor/Landlord, and a Portfolio Manager, overseeing their own Real Estate investments, as well as helping facilitate our client’s best interests at heart, looking forward to forge new relationships, and the journeys that will unfold.
